Learning how to hard wax at home can be tricky to master but like with anything, you will get it with time and practice. But getting savvy on the rules of hair removal is essential to smooth success. When you make a mess instead, here are some reasons why.
Only use the best.
Start by using Miss Cire full-body wax and the best hard wax for face at home or a high-quality wax. The “cheaper” route goes nowhere.
Honor your wax.
Before melting down a wax, ensure you're following the instructions on the packaging.
Is your wax too hot?
Runny and drippy are not where we want to be. If that’s what your wax looks like, lower the heat on your warmer. When it looks like thick honey, lift up some melted wax and make sure it’s slowly and seductively its way back to the pot. Then practice twirling your wax around your stick. It should make a swirly bulb that can be spread neatly over a leg.
Are you too hot? (no way, baby)
Keep in mind that if your temperature is high or the room you’re in is too hot, it could affect the setting of the wax. To avoid this, keep the room temperature at around 70°F.
Are you using too much (or too little) wax?
Make sure you're using the right amount and type of wax for the area you’re waxing. Cream hard waxes are better for sensitive areas like the face, underarms, or flower bud parts. Use gels when working on your arms or learning how to wax your legs at home with hard wax.
Hair check!
Hair length should be at least ¼-inch long when waxing, or wax may not be able to grip the too-short hairs.
Skincare is key!
You should follow a good skincare routine even when you're not waxing. Regularly remove dead skin cells and keep skin moisturized with lotion and gentle cleansing. The day before you wax (and 24 hours after), do an extra special exfoliating rubdown, removing all product buildup, dead skin cells, and environmental debris. Apply a light lotion while skin is still damp and pat dry.
Don’t forget pre and post-wax care.
When you do wax, use Miss Cire Pre-Depilatory Cooling Gel to remove any excess makeup, deodorant, or sweat. Immediately follow at-home waxing with Miss Cire Post-Depilatory Emulsion to cleanse, protect and remove any leftover wax residue.
